coaches

meet salto's dream team

Our coaches are the best of the best. When you train with a Salto Gymnastics coach, you are working with elite professionals, trained within the National Coaching Certification Program in theoretical, technical and practical aspects of coaching gymnastics.

They have completed individual study, and hands-on coaching experience under the supervision of Salto’s senior coaching staff and management team with a lifelong passion for our sport and decades worth of knowledge to pass down.

Our team includes coaches with extensive international MAG experience, FIG level judging experience, and international ACRO experience, allowing us to coach according to our athletes’ needs rather than a one size fits all approach.

Additionally, all of our coaches are First Aid certified, Respect in Sport – Activity Leader certified, Commit to Kids trained, Gymnastics Foundations trained, and Trampoline trained.

They receive ongoing training in Gymnastics Foundations, Trampoline as well as all aspects of professional development. Because our coaches receive ongoing coaching themselves, those benefits transfer directly to our athletes.

kimberly hamel

Hi, my name is Kim and I have been coaching for over 15
years.  Gymnastics was always a major
part of my life growing up. My grandparents started the gymnastics club in my
small town and my mom continued it as I grew up. I competed until I was 12
then transitioned to coaching. It is an awesome sport and the best for body
awareness and literacy!

Chelsea Mcnabb

I have been a part of the Salto family for over 23 years. Starting out as a rec athlete at age 4, quickly moving into competitive where I competed for 12 years, then switching over to Acro a few years later. I started coaching at age 13 and have worked with athletes of all ages and abilities, from parent and tot classes to Team Canada Acro Athletes. My favorite part about coaching is seeing the excitement and pride in the athletes as they learn new skills, and being a part of their lives as they grow up! In my free time I enjoy camping, fishing, and crafts of all kinds.

rebecca wareham

Hi, I’m Rebecca, and I have been involved in the sport of gymnastics for 30 years; first as an athlete, then as a coach, parent, and National-level judge.  Gymnastics is my passion, and Salto is like my second home.  I love that gymnastics is for everyone and has benefits reaching far beyond just learning how to flip.  Watching the growth of each athlete as both a gymnast and a person is the biggest reward in my job.  I want everyone to fall in love with gymnastics as much as I am.  If I’m not doing something gymnastics-related, I am spending time with my family, traveling, dancing, cheering on Oilers, or singing Disney songs.

Sara Morris

My background experience with children comes from over 15 years of specializing as a children’s yoga teacher offering classes and programs in yoga studios, playschools, and schools in Edmonton and surrounding areas. As well as my work history which includes employment with Edmonton Public Schools, and Amiskwaciy Cultural Society Aboriginal HeadStart. I have worked in partnership with PALS program, ASHRAB Sports and Recreation for the Blind, Autism Services of Edmonton, Family Resources Services in Strathcona County and Leduc, and CHANGE health. I received my Early Childhood Education from Lethbridge College and Norquest College My free time is spent either teaching yoga or with my husband and our two children. I LOVE spending time outdoors especially in the mountains. I enjoy yoga, paddleboarding, biking, hiking, camping and my guilty pleasure reality TV. My philosophy around children’s learning is to provide an enriched learning environment which focuses on physical literacy, exploratory play, social/emotional literacy and early learning concepts. I feel honored to be taking on the role as Preschool Director at Salto and I will strive to provide a supportive and compassionate learning environment for your children to flourish and grow.

I’ve been at Salto Gymnastics for three, going on four years now.  Salto is an incredible gym and very welcoming to everyone I know. I’ve found that Salto is a very positive place for me and for everyone that comes here. I was born and raised in Sherwood Park, and I am currently still in high school. I love to get creative with writing and drawing and love to explore different methods of arts and crafts. I find that gymnastics is a kind of starter sport, you can really branch into anything from it, and I find that very interesting.

Emma Hunter

Emma grew up in Edmonton and has been living in Sherwood Park since 2010. She started recreational gymnastics with Salto at the age of three and trained until 2021. Since then, she has been coaching recreational gymnastics with Salto. Along with gymnastics, Emma also did 13 years of competitive dance and has been skiing all her life. Nicole cannot wait to see you in a gymnastics class!

Bailey Smith

Sophie has been involved with Salto for 18 years. Since she was two, she started training and then when she was old enough, she made the move to coaching.  She has been a coach here for 9 years now and she loves it!  For Sophie, there is nothing more fulfilling than watching an athlete accomplish their gymnastics goals and find joy in the same sport she loves.  When not at the gym, Sophie is going to school to become an elementary teacher!  She also loves to read books, watch TV and movies, and listen to music!
