cangym

CanGym is a nationally recognized curriculum for recreational gymnastics.

A 12-Level program where specific skills must be attained before moving onto the next level, regardless of age.

Elements on all apparatus and general fitness are evaluated. At the end of each session, each child receives a certificate indicating the badge they have achieved.

In order to pass a particular badge, each child must master all the skills before moving on.

These key program skills have been selected to ensure a clear progression from one badge to the next. The progression through the colored badges is as follows: 
beginner

1 Hour Class

Floor/Beam:

  • Walks, Runs,
  • Animal walks
  • Forward roll down
  • incline & log roll
  • Prone fall up incline & safety fall
  • 5 consecutive springs & shape jumps
  • Assemble & one foot balances
  • Front, back, stride supports
  • Forward / backward two foot landings

Bars/Rings:

  • Long hang
  • Sole hangs

1 Hour Class

Floor/Beam:

  • Tripod balance
  • Backward roll down incline & forward roll to feet
  • Skips and chasse
  • Front to back support
  • Jump 1/2 turn
  • 2 & 3 point balances
  • Lunge to lever
  • Straight jump

Bars/Rings:

  • Land on 8” safety mat from sole hang to back
  • 3 long hang swings (small)
  • 3 casts (hips on bars)

1.5 Hour Class

Floor/Beam:

  • Hollow body log roll
  • Tripod balance roll out
  • Forward roll from knee height apparatus
  • Front to stride to back support
  • Forward and backward two foot landings

Bars/Rings:

  • 3 pendual swings
  • 3 glide swing progression
  • Tucked L-hang
  • Straight body inverted hang
  • Skin the cat to feet

1.5 Hour Class

Floor/Beam:

  • Handstand fall, prone fall, break fall
  • Power hurtle
  • Headstand forward roll
  • Drive roll down waist height
  • Run, jump onto waist height apparatus
  • Jump 1/1 turn
  • Cartwheel
  • Shoulder stand and headstands

Bars/Rings:

  • Pullover bar at chest height
  • Straight arm jump to front support
  • 3 cross support swings
  • 3 casts hips off bar
  • 3 glide swings

intermediate

2 Hour Class (Girls only)

Floor:

  • Straight arm backwards roll down incline
  • Handstand forward roll
  • Press headstand
  • 3 cartwheels & roundoff

Bars:

  • Pullover, Cast- feet to bar height
  • Glide swing to stretched body position
  • Beat swing to initiate long swings

Beam:

  • Walks and runs
  • Forward roll
  • Backwards shoulder roll
  • Round Off dismount
  • Walk on ½ point

Vault:

  • Handstand on floor “pop” to flat back 8’ mats

2 Hour Class (girls Only)

Floor:

  • Hurdle cartwheel and roundoff
  • Feet back to bridge and kick over

Bars:

  • Cast to horizontal
  • Back Hip circle
  • Jump to straddle or pike underswing

Beam:

  • Tuck or straddle jump
  • Momentary handstand to lunge
  • Forward roll to stand
  • Skipping

Vault:

  • Handspring with beat board & mini tramp -assisted

2.5 Hour Class (girls Only)

Floor:

  • Back extension down incline
  • Handspring with beat board and mini tramp (vault)
  • Dive cartwheel
  • Round off rebound to waist height
  • 1/1 turn

Bars:

  • Cast push away long hang swing
  • Cast straddle/pike dismount
  • Kip timer

Beam:

  • Cartwheel
  • Forward handspring dismount
  • 1 foot mount with beat board

Vault:

  • Handspring with beat board & mini tramp

advanced

2.5 Hour Class (Girls only)

Floor:

  • Back handspring down incline
  • Front handspring assisted
  • Forward tuck with beadboard
  • Back extension to handstand
  • Handspring with beat board (vault)

Bars:

  • Cast to horizontal
  • Tuck or pike on and jump
  • Long hang swing pullover
  • Free hip circle

Beam:

  • ½ turn Handstand
  • 3 step punch dive roll dismount
  • Dance acro series

Vault:

  • Handspring with beat board
  • ½ on to stomach – 1m piled mats
  • ½ off with beat board & mini tramp

2.5 Hour Class (girls Only)

Vault:

  • ½ on with beat board and mini tramp
  • Round off entry onto beat board rebound

Bars:

  • Cast to 45 above horizontal
  • Cast push away to glide swing
  • Tuck or pike catch high bar
  • Long hang swing to 45 with ½ turn

Beam:

  • Handstand mount
  • Forward / back walkover- assisted
  • Forward salto dismount

Floor:

  • Forward and back walkover
  • Forward and back handspring
  • 1 ½ turn

2.5 Hour Class (girls Only)

Vault:

  • ½ on with beat board
  • ½ off with beat board
  • 1/1 twist with mats stacked

Bars:

  • Glide kip
  • Sole circle assisted
  • Free hip circle to stand – low bar
  • Long hang swings to near horizontal

Beam:

  • Forward / back walkover
  • Forward salto dismount
  • Backward salto dismount

Floor:

  • Round off back handspring
  • Forward handspring to dive roll
  • Front salto to round off
  • Back saltos
